Sri Vigneshvara Shoddasa Nama Stotram

Sri Vigneshvara Shodasa Nama Stotram is the Slokam in praise of and as prayer to Bhagwan Ganesh. The Slokam provides the sixteen basic names of Sri Ganesh with which He is worshipped.

The slokam is presented in Devanagari and English scripts with a simple English translation.

सुमुखश्चैक दन्तश्च कपिलो गजकर्णकः
लम्बोदरश्च विकटो विघ्नराजो गणादिपः

sumukha-shch-aika dhanthashcha kapilo gaja-karNakah
lambodhara-shcha vikato vighnaraajo gaNaadhipah

Bhagwan Sri Ganesh is worshipped by the names such as Sumukha, the God of auspicious and good face; Eka-dhantha, the God with a single tusk; Sri Kapila, the sacred God; Sri Gaja-karnaka, the God with elephant ears; Sri Lambodhara, the God with big stomach; Sri Vikata, the God of pleasing appearance; and Sri Ganadhipa, the leader of Ganas, the celestial warriors.

धूमकेतुर्गणाद्यक्षः बालचन्द्रो गजाननः
वक्रतुण्डश्शूर्पकर्णो हेरम्बस्स्कन्द पूर्वजः

Dhoomakethur-gaNaadhyakShah baalachandhro gajaananah
vakrathuNda-sh-shoorpakarNo herambas-skandha poorvajah

Bhagwan Sri Ganesh is worshipped by the names such as Sri Dhuma-kethu, the destroyer of the demon Dhumasur; Sri Ganathyaksha, the leader of Ganas; Sri Bala Chandra, the God wearing the crescent moon on His head; Sri Gajanan, the God with elephant head; Sri Vakra-Thunda, the God with the curved trunk; Sri Shurpa Karna, the God with broad fanlike ears; Sri Heramba, the protecting God of the weak and downtrodden; and Sri Skandha Purvaja, the son of Bhagwan Shiva and Goddess Parvathi born before Sri Skandha.

षोडशैतानि नामानि यः पठेच्छर्णुयादपि
विद्यारम्भे विवाहे च प्रवेशे निर्गमे तथा
सङ्ग्रामे सर्वकार्येषु विघ्नस्तस्य न जायते

Shodashaithaani naamaani yah paTech-CharNu-yaadhapi
vidhyaarambhe vivaahe cha praveshe nirgame thaThaa
sanGgraame sarva-kaaryeShu vighna-sthasya na jaayathe

The sincere and devout reading and reciting of this slokam shall bless and bestow good education, marriage, progeny and the removal of all troubles as sought by the said devotee.
