Shiv Aarti in Hindi

Sri Shiv Aarti in Hindi: श्री शिव आरती was composed by Sri Swami Shivananda (1854-1934), who was the primary and first disciple of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa.

At the end of puja or archana, the Arathi plate with the lighted lamp is circulated clockwise in front of the God’s Vigraha (Statue) till the chanting of the Arathi is complete.

The custom used to prevail throughout North India. Nowadays, this practice is being followed invariably on all occasions whenever and wherever Shiv puja is conducted.

जय शिव ओंकारा, ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा ।
ब्रह्मा, विष्णु, सदाशिव, अर्द्धांगी धारा ॥
ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा

jaya shiva onkara, om jaya shiva onkara ।
brahma, vishnu, sadashiva, arddhangi dhara ॥
om jaya shiva onkara

Meaning: Triumph to you, lord shiva! You are the personified version of the pranava mantra ‘Om’; Triumph to you, Lord Shiva!

The combination of Sri Brahma, Sri Vishnu, and eternal Sri Shiva gives the abundant flow of bliss; This abundance removes our troubles.

Triumph to you, Lord Shiva! You are “Om” personified.

एकानन चतुरानन पंचानन राजे ।
हंसासन गरूड़ासन वृषवाहन साजे ॥
ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा

ekanana chaturanana panchanana raje ।
hansasana garuda़asana vrishavahana saje ॥
om jaya shiva onkara

Meaning: Being the omnipresent almighty, you have one head as Sri Vishnu, four heads as Sri Brahma, and five heads as Sri Shiva.

As Sri Brahma, you use Swan as your seat, as Sri Vishnu, you use Garuda as your seat, and as Sri Shiva, you sit on the holy bull.

Triumph to you, Lord Shiva! You are “Om” personified.

दो भुज चार चतुर्भुज दसभुज अति सोहे ।
त्रिगुण रूप निरखते त्रिभुवन जन मोहे ॥
ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा

do bhuja chara chaturbhuja dasabhuja ati sohe ।
triguna rupa nirakhate tribhuvana jana mohe ॥
om jaya shiva onkara

Meaning: You have two arms as Sri Brahma, four arms as Sri Vishnu, and ten arms as Sri Shiva; The sight of these arms is serene.

The sight of your three forms (Sri Brahma, Sri Vishnu & Sri Shiva) is loved by the occupants of the three worlds (Bhoomi – earth, Swarg – heaven and Pathal – below earth).

Triumph to you, Lord Shiva! You are “Om” personified.

अक्षमाला वनमाला मुण्डमाला धारी ।
चंदन, मृदमग सोहें, भाले शशिधारी ॥
ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा

akshamala vanamala mundamala dhari ।
chandana, nridamaga sohem, bhale shashidhari ॥
om jaya shiva onkara

Meaning: You are wearing a garland of rudraksha beads, a garland of wildflowers, and a garland of skulls.

Your forehead smeared with sandal paste, and musk is glittering in the light of the adorned young moon.

Triumph to you, Lord Shiva! You are “Om” personified.

श्वेताम्बर, पीताम्बर, बाघाम्बर अंगें ।
सनकादिक, ब्रम्हादिक, भूतादिक संगें ॥
ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा

shvetambara, pitambara, baghambara angem ।
sanakadika, branhadika, bhutadika sangem ॥
om jaya shiva onkara

Meaning: You wear white Vibudhi (holy ash) on your person as a costume, you wear sacred yellow clothes, and you also wear the tiger skin.

All the sages, the Devas, including Brahma and the other physical living beings, are with you.

Triumph to you, Lord Shiva! You are “Om” personified.

कर के मध्य कमड़ंल चक्र, त्रिशूल धरता ।
सुखकारी दुखहारी जगपालन कारी ॥
ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा

kara ke madhya kamaड़nla chakra, trishula dharata ।
sukhakari dukhahari jagapalana kari ॥
om jaya shiva onkara

Meaning: On your one hand, you hold the Kamandala (vessel with sprout) holding holy water and on the other hand, you have the trident.

You give us happiness, remove our sorrows and protect the world

Triumph to you, Lord Shiva! You are “Om” personified.

ब्रह्मा विष्णु सदाशिव जानत अविवेका ।
प्रणवाक्षर में शोभित ये तीनों एका ॥
ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा

brahma vishnu sadashiva janata aviveka ।
pranavakshara mem shobhita ye tinom eka ॥
om jaya shiva onkara

Meaning: Persons with lessor wisdom always think that Sri Brahma, Sri Vishnu, and Sri Shiva are three different Gods.

However, you exist in the Pranava Manthra Word ‘Om’ in one form only.

Triumph to you, Lord Shiva! You are “Om” personified.

त्रिगुणस्वामी जी की आरति जो कोइ नर गावे ।
कहत शिवानंद स्वामी सुख संपति पावे ॥
ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा

trigunasvami ji ki arati jo koi nara gave ।
kahata shivananda svami sukha sampati pave ॥
om jaya shiva onkara

Meaning: Swamy Shivananda says, “those reciting this Arathi to the Lord of three characteristics, viz., Satva (goodness), Rajas (boldness) and Tamas (calmness) shall get their wishes fulfilled“.

Triumph to you, Lord Shiva! You are “Om” personified.

Sri Shiv Arathi shows that Lord Shiva is the culmination of all the forms of divinity, and Lord Shiva is the ultimate one.

After completion of Arathi, it is shown to all the persons present in the pooja for them to sight and slightly touches the sanctified lamp fire symbolizing the removal of darkness.
