Sri Surya Kavacha Stotram is the Slokam in praise of and as prayer to Bhagwan Sri Surya. This Slokam is composed by way of recitation by the Sage Sri Yagyavalkya.
It is sincerely believed that the sincere recitation of Sri Surya Kavacha Stotram shall result in alleviation of all ailments, long life, healthy and strong physique.
The Slokam is presented in Devanagari and English scripts with a simple English translation. The benefits of sincere recitation of this Slokam is embedded in the text itself.
याज्ञवल्क्य उवाच / Yagnyavalkya uvaacha
श्रुणुष्व मुनिशार्दूल सूर्यस्य कवचं शुभम्
शरीरारोग्यदं दिव्यं सर्व सौभाग्यदायकम् (1)
shruNuShva muni-shaardhoola sooryasya kavachaM shubham
shareera-arogyadhaM dhivyaM sarva saubhaagya-dhaayakam
I am reciting this to the great Sage who is the lion amongst the sages. I am reciting this holy divine armor invoking the Bhagwan Sri Surya. Kindly listen to this. This kavacham brings health to the body, divinity and all kinds of wealth.
दैदिप्य मानं मुकुटं स्फ़ुरन्मकरकुण्डलम्
ध्यात्वा सहस्रकिरणं स्तोत्रमेतदुदीरयेत् (2)
dhaidhipya maanaM mukutaM sphuran-makara-kuNdalam
Dhyaathvaa sahasra-kiraNaM sthothrame-thadhudhiryaeth
This Kavacham is to be recited after meditating on Bhagwan Sri Surya who has the thousand rays, the dazzling crown on His head and wears crocodile shaped ear ornaments.
शिरो मे भास्करः पातु ललाटे मेSमितद्दुतिः
नेत्रे दिनमणिः पातु श्रवणे वासरेश्वरः (3)
shiro mae bhaaskarah paathu lalaatae mae-(A)mithdhyuthih
naethre dhinamaNih paathu shravaNae vaasarae-shvarah
May the Bhagwan of light protect my head. May the God with dazzling brilliance protect my forehead. May the precious gem of the day protect my eyes. May the Bhagwan of the day protect my ears.
घ्राणं धर्म धृणिः पातु वदनं वेदवाहनः
जिह्वां मे मानदः पातु कंठं मे सुरवंदितः (4)
ghraaNaM Dharma DhruNih paathu vadhanaM vedha-vaahanah
jihvaaM mae maanadhah paathu kaNTaM mae sura-vandhithah
May the Bhagwan protecting dharma protect my nose. May the Bhagwan having Vedas as vehicles protect my face. May the destroyer of pride protect my tongue. May my neck be protected by the Bhagwan worshipped by Devas.
स्कंधौ प्रभाकरं पातु वक्षः पातु जनप्रियः
पातु पादौ द्वादशात्मा सर्वागं सकलेश्वरः (5)
skanDhau prabhaakaraM paathu vakshah paathu jana-priyah
paathu paadhau dhvaadhasha-athmaa sarvaangaM sakalae-shvarah
May the Bhagwan of bright light protect my senses. May the Bhagwan loved by the people protect my chest. May the God with twelve souls (names) protect my feet. May my entire body be protected by the omni present God.
सूर्यरक्षात्मकं स्तोत्रं लिखित्वा भूर्जपत्रके
दधाति यः करे तस्य वशगाः सर्वसिद्धयः (6)
soorya-raksha-athmakaM sthothraM likhithvaa bhoorja-pathrakae
dhaDhaathi yah karae thasya vashagaah sarva-sidhDhayah
If this prayer of protecting armor invoking Bhagwan Sri Surya is written on bhurja leaves and given to someone, the receiver shall be under the protection of the giver. The person who has written it on the leaves shall be bestowed with all the yogic attributes.
सुस्नातो यो जपेत्सम्यक् योSधीते स्वस्थ मानसः
स रोगमुक्तो दीर्घायुः सुखं पुष्टिं च विंदति (7)
susnaathoa yoa japethsamyak yoa(A)Dhithae svasTha maanasah
sa rogmukthoa dheerghaayuh sukhaM puShtiM cha vindhathi
The person who sincerely and devoutly reads and recites this Kavacha Slokam after morning routines (including bath) shall be blessed and bestowed with peaceful mind, decease free long healthy life and happiness.
इति श्री माद्याज्ञवल्क्य मुनि विरचितं सूर्य कवचस्तोत्रं संपूर्णं
