Sri Panchakshari Shiva Stotram is the Slokam in praise of and as prayer to Lord Shiva.

Sri Panchakshari Shiva Stotram contains eight stanzas each describing the attributes of Lord Shiva as the annihilator of the poverty in many forms. The additional last stanza mentions the benefits of reciting this Slokam.

Sri Panchakshari Shiva Stotram is also known as Sri Dharidhrya Dukha Dhahana Stotram. It is composed by the Sage Vasishta.

Sri Panchakshari Shiva Stotram is presented in the Devanagari and the English scripts with a simple English translation.

विश्वेश्वराय नरकार्णव तारणाय
कर्णामृताय शशि शेखर धारणाय
कर्पूर कान्ति धवळाय जटाधराय
दारिद्र्य दुःख दहनाय नमः शिवाय (1)

Lord Shiva is the Lord of the universe. He retrieves those languishing in hell. He is full of compassion and mercy. He adorns the crescent moon on His head. He dazzles like the lit camphor. He has the matted hair.
He blazes the sorrow of poverty. Humble Salutations to Lord Shiva.

गौरि प्रियाय रजनीश कलाधराय
कालान्तकाय भुजगाधिप कङ्कणाय
गङ्गाधराय गजराज विमर्दनाय
दारिद्र्य दुःख दहनाय नमः शिवाय (2)

Lord Shiva loves and is loved by Sri Gowri, His consort. He is the Lord of the moon. He is multi phased. He has diminished Yama. He wears snakes as His bracelets and armlets. He adorns river Ganga on His head. He has destroyed Gajamukhasur.

भक्ति प्रियाय भयरोग भयापहाय
उग्राय दुर्ग भवसागर तारणाय
ज्योतिर्मयाय गुणनाम सुनृत्यकाय
दारिद्र्य दुःख दहनाय नमः शिवाय (3)

bhakthi priyaaya bhaya-roaga bhaya-apahaaya
ugraaya dhurga bhavasaagara thaaraNaaya
jyothir-mayaaya guNanaama sunruthya-kaaya

Lord Shiva is fond of and is loved by His devotees. He destroys the illness and the fear of illness. He is fierce. He is the defender. He rescues His devotees from the ocean of the worldly life.  He is pleasant.

चर्मांबराय शवभस्म विलेपनाय
भालेक्षणाय मणिकुण्डल मण्डिताय
मञ्जीर पाद युगळाय जटाधराय
दारिद्र्य दुःख दहनाय नमः शिवाय (4)

charma-ambaraaya shavabhasma vilaepanaaya
bhalekShaNaaya maNikuNdala manDithaaya
manchjeera paadha yugaLaaya jataaDharaaya
dharidhrya dhuh-kha dhahanaaya namah shivaaya

Lord Shiva wears animal hides as clothes. He smears the ashes from those whose lives had ended. He has the third eye in His forehead. He adorns ear ornaments studded with precious gems. He adorns anklets at His feet. He has the matted hair.

पञ्चाननाय फणिराज विभूषणाय
हेमांशुकाय भुवनत्रय मण्डिताय
आनन्द भूमि वरदाय तमोमयाय
दारिद्र्य दुःख दहनाय नमः शिवाय (5)

haemaaM-shukaaya bhuvana-thraya maNdithaaya
aanandha bhoomi varadhaaya thamoa-mayaaya

Lord Shiva is very passionate. He adorns the King of snakes on His person. His body dazzles like gold.  He adorns the three worlds. He grants and showers happiness on the earth. He is with darkness.

भानु प्रियाय भवसागर तारणाय
कालान्तकाय कमलासन पूजिताय
नेत्रत्रयाय शुभलक्षण लक्षिताय
दारिद्र्य दुःख दहनाय नमः शिवाय (6)

bhanu priyaaya bhava-saagara thaaraNaaya
kaalanthakaaya kamala-asana poojithaaya
nethra-thrayaaya shubhalakShaNa lakShithaaya
dharidhrya dhuh-kha dhahanaaya namah shivaaya

Lord Shiva is adored by Sri Surya. He protects His devotees from the ocean of worldly life. He has diminished Yama. He is ardently worshipped by Sri Brahma who sits on the lotus. He has three eyes.  He is auspiciousness personified.
He blazes the sorrow of poverty. Humble Salutations to Lord Shiva.

रामप्रियाय रघुनाथ वरप्रदाय
नागप्रियाय नरकार्णव तारणाय
पुण्येषु पुण्य़ भरिताय सुरार्चिताय
दारिद्र्य दुःख दहनाय नमः शिवाय (7)

raama-priyaaya raghu-naaTha varapradhaaya
naagapriyaaya narakaarNava thaaraNaaya
puNyeShu puNya bharithaaya suraarchithaaya
dharidhrya dhuh-kha dhahanaaya namah shivaaya

Lord Shiva is adored by Lord Ram. He had granted great boons to Sri Ram, who is the King of Raghu vamsa. He adores snakes. He protects those languishing in hell. He grants auspicious divine attributes. He is worshipped by the Devas.
He blazes the sorrow of poverty. Humble Salutations to Lord Shiva.

मुक्तेश्वराय फलदाय गणेश्वराय
गीतप्रियाय वृषभेश्वर वाहनाय
मातङ्ग चर्म वसनाय महेश्वराय
दारिद्र्य दुःख दहनाय नमः शिवाय (8)

geethapriyaaya vruShabheshvara vaahanaaya
maathanGa charma vasanaaya maheshvaraaya

Lord Shiva is the Lord who grants mukthi and salvation. He fulfills His devotees’ wishes. He is the Lord of the celestial warriors. He is fond of divine songs and music. He rides on the bull. He adorns the skin of the elephant. He is the greatest Lord.
He blazes the sorrow of poverty. Humble Salutations to Lord Shiva.

वसिष्ठेन कृतं स्तोत्रं सर्वरोग निवारणम्
सर्व संपत्करं शीघ्रं पुत्र पौत्रादि वर्धनम्
त्रिसन्ध्यं यः पठेन्नित्यं स हि स्वर्गमवाप्नुयात्

vasishtaena kruthaM sthothraM sarvaroaga nivaaraNam
sarva saMpathkaraM sheeghraM putha pouthraadhi varDhanam
thrisanDhyaM yah paTaen-nithyaM sa hi svargamaapnuyaath

The person who sincerely reads and recites this Stotram composed by Sage Vasishta shall be blessed with the annihilation of all deceases, all wealth and sooner progeny. The person who sincerely reads and recites this thrice a day shall attain moksha.
