Sri Marga Bandhu

Sri Marga Bandhu Stotram is the Slokam in praise of and as prayer to Lord Shiva in the manifestation of Sri Marga Bandhu. “Marga Bandhu” means the one who accompanies and protects the travellers.

Sri Marga Bandhu Stotram was composed by Sri Appayya Dhikshithar who is said to be the expert interpreter of Advaitha theory next only to Sri Adi Sankaracharya.  Sri Appayya Dhikshithar is said to belong to 16th Century A.D.

Sri Marga Bandhu Stotram was composed as prayer to Sri Marga Bandhu Swamy of Virinchipuram near Vellore in Tamil Nadu. It is believed that reading and reciting of this Stotram shall provide protection during travels. The travel also denotes the journey of life.

Sri Marga Bandhu Stotram is narrated in Devanagari and English scripts with a simple English translation. The first stanza has to be repeated at the end of every Slokam from the second stanza.

Lord Shiva adorns the crown on His head. With the fire from His third eye, He had scorched the user of five faced arrow (Manmadha) as an insect.  He had destroyed His enemies with trident. He is pure and serene. He wears the crescent moon on His head.
My humble Salutations to Sri Marga Bandhu, the God who provides protection in the travel.

Lord Shiva has His body covered with snakes. His head appears charismatic with the dancing waves of Ganga. In the garden of Omkara mantra (Pranava mantra), He exists like an attractive deer. His holy feet are ardently worshipped by the Siddhas and the Sages.
My humble Salutations to Sri Marga Bandhu, the God who provides protection in the travel.

Lord Shiva is the embodiment and personification of pure and supreme consciousness. He has demolished the pride of Ravan, who was the enemy of Indra. He had used Meru mountain as the arrow when He fought with Tripurasur. He wears the animal hides on His person. He accompanies those who travel in the path of virtues and righteousness.
My humble Salutations to Sri Marga Bandhu, the God who provides protection in the travel.

Lord Shiva had annihilated the pride of Manmadha. His throat is of bluish hue. He is the Great God. He has the sky as His hair. His teeth dazzle like the jasmine flowers. He is the Lord of the Devas. He is as resplendent as the crore Suns.
My humble Salutations to Sri Marga Bandhu, the God who provides protection in the travel.

Lord Shiva is mightier than the Mandara mountains. He blesses and bestows the wishes better than the wish fulfilling trees. He is the consort of Sri Maha Gowri who is Sri Parvathi Devi. He is of the intense reddish complexion. He is more steadfast than the king of oceans.
My humble Salutations to Sri Marga Bandhu, the God who provides protection in the travel.
