Sri Anna Purnashtakam is the Slokam in praise of and as prayer to Sri Anna Purna Devi, one of the incarnations of Sri Parvathi Devi.
As per the legend, once, Lord Shiva was afflicted with hunger. No amount of food could quench His hunger. He was roaming around the worlds.
Sri Parvathi Devi took the form of Sri Annapurni at Kasi and had a golden vessel in Her hand. From the vessel, with the golden ladle, She gave food to Lord Shiva. His hunger subsided.
He then ordained that Sri Annapurni should provide food to all living beings and that Her vessel would be called as ‘’Akshaya Pathra”.
The day when Sri Annapurni fed Lord Shiva to alleviate His hunger occurred on Akshaya Thrithiya day. Hence it is considered auspicious to buy food stuff on this day.
Sri Anna Purnashtakam contains twelve stanzas each describing the attributes of Sri Anna Purna Devi as the Supreme Mother providing food and sustenance to the people in the World.
Sri Anna Purnashtakam is composed by Sri Adi Sankaracharya. It is presented here in Devanagari and English Scripts with a simple English translation.

You represent the three waters (three rivers Ganga, Yamnua and Saraswathi). You manifest three Shakthis such as Icha Shakthi, Gnana Shakthi and Kriya Shakthi. The creation of the universe emanates from You. You fulfill the desires and wishes of the people by providing them food and sustenance. You are the Supreme Mother of Kashi.
