Anvadhan and Ishti

Anvadhan and Ishti are two of the innumerable modes of worship of Bhagwan Sri Maha Vishnu. They occur on two days twice a month, viz., at the time of Pournami and Amavasya.

Anvadhan means adding ghee or fuel for the Havan / Homam conducted for worshipping Sri Bhagwan. This is the day long worship.

The word “Ishti” means desires. This is the short form of worshipping and praying to Sri Bhagwan for fulfillment of particular wishes.

Normally, devotees observe fasting during these days.

The ensuing Anvadhan is observed on Amavasya day on Monday, 8th April 2024 and Ishti is observed on Tuesday, 9th April 2024. The exact duration of Anvadhan and Ishti worships is to be ascertained from the respective regional Calendar.
